What is Battleplan?

Battleplan is a historical WW2 real-time strategy game developed by Foolish Mortals Games and published by Slitherine. Instead of micromanaging units, you step into the boots of a commanding general and issue high-level orders by drawing directly on a map built from real-world geographic data.

Each division is modelled from headquarters down to rifle companies, and your officers carry out your intent autonomously. Plan multi-phase offensives, cut enemy supply lines, call in air support, and rewrite the front line with a single stroke of the pencil across 11 historical Western Front missions.

Battleplan Guides and Resources

Explore eight essential Battleplan topics, from drawing your first orders to mastering the campaign, units, factions, and operational tactics.

Battleplan Beginner Guide

New to Battleplan? You are the general who draws high-level orders on a real-world map and lets officers carry them out. This step-by-step walks you through planning your first offensives, managing divisions and keeping supply lines open.

1Draw your plan on the map — use the pencil tool to sketch movement arrows, defensive lines and objectives directly onto real-world geography; you command at division level, not squad level.
2Assign Zone Orders — mark operational areas and drag troops between zones, so you direct whole fronts without micromanaging every unit.
3Shape your army — combine divisions into corps or split them down to companies, requisition and upgrade units, and hire or fire officers between battles.
4Command time and logistics — pause, play or fast-forward; cut enemy supply lines and seize depots to fuel your advance.
5Trust your officers — they interpret your intent and adapt to the battlefield; keep them alive to earn veterancy and quirks across the campaign.

Battleplan Tips

Win more battles in Battleplan with operational-level thinking. These tactics come directly from official manuals and developer guidance.

1Master logistics first — cut enemy supply lines and capture depots; a starved division fights at a fraction of its strength.
2Use terrain — place artillery on high ground using real elevation maps and funnel attackers through forests and towns.
3Pick the right order — Hold Line, Counterattack, Encircle and Lay Minefield tell divisions how to behave.
4Build defence in depth — plan withdrawals and counterattacks rather than holding a single line to the last man.
5Prepare with fire — run bombardments before set-piece attacks, then split divisions to seize multiple objectives.
